President Amit Kr De Amit Kumar De obtained both his BSc and MSc (Tech) degrees in Ceramic Technology from the University of Calcutta. After working couple of years in Bengal Potteries Ltd and in Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute, he went to Japan with a scholarship for higher studies and training and obtained his Post Graduate Diploma from OISCA Technical Institute, Tokyo. He has his training and research studies in industrial ceramics including ceramic frits, enamel frits, opacifiers and ceramic colours with OTK Insulators Ltd, Osaka and Honjho Chemical Laboratory – KK, Nagoya. He worked for more than 10 years with Ferro Coatings & Colors Ltd, Joka as Head of the manufacturing division. Mr De also has the credit for development and mass production of ceramic onglaze colours and glass colours suitable for beverage bottle industry as per international standard. Development of zircon colours also goes to him. He joined as a Project Manager with Comcraft Services Ltd, UK and posted in Kenya. He was entrusted to install a ceramic frit, enamel frit, ceramic colour plant including plastic master batch in Kenya. He has provided the entire technology and installation of the plant. Installation of a ceramic frit plant in Malaysia also goes to his credit. He was promoted to Chief Operations Manager of the company and also included in the Board. Afterwards he also rendered Technical Consultancy in Egypt. Mr De is the recipient of Prof. Sasadhar Ray Memorial Award for Industrial Excellence from Indian Ceramic Society and M. G. Bhagat Memorial Award for his contributions in Ceramic Industry from All India Pottery Manufacturers’ Association. He is a fellow of Indian Institute of Ceramics and was also a member of British Institute of Management, England. He has visited various countries like USA, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Greece, Japan, Hongkong, China, Singapore, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe in course of his attending conferences and meetings and industrial visit.

Shreekant Somany, son of Shri Hira Lall Somany, after doing graduation in Bachelor of Science from Kolkata University, joined the family business in 1969. In the year 1981, he moved to Hyderabad to head the Glass Division of Hindustan Sanitaryware & Industries Ltd (a group company) M/s. Associated Glass Industries Ltd (AGI) In the year 1992, he came back to Delhi to head yet another group company, M/s. SPL LIMITED, now called Somany Ceramics Ltd, one of the well-established and largest manufacturers of glazed ceramic tiles in the country. In the year 1994 he took charge of this company as its Managing Director, and later on in the year 2005, he became the Chairman & Managing Director. Today, the company has a manufacturing base to produce 19.15 million sqm of ceramic tiles annually across two plant locations in Bahadurgarh (Haryana) near Delhi and Kadi (Gujarat) near Ahmedabad. In addition to own manufacturing Somany Ceramics Ltd also outsources about 10 million sqm of tiles per annum from domestic / international manufacturers. SCL offers the widest range of ceramic tiles in the country and has a strong pan India sales distribution network & also exports its material to various countries the Middle East, East and Central Africa, Europe, Latin America, South Asia and South East Asia. Instrument in Somany Ceramics Ltd becoming the first Indian ceramic tile company to have received PATENT under Indian Patent Act for its revolutionary “High Abrasion Resistant Glaze Composite” known as VC (Veilcraft) Shield. Was personally involved as an inventor in the whole process of this invention. Recipient of the prestigious Corporate Technical Achievement award from the American Ceramic Society in the field of ceramics for development of Somany Veil Craft Shield Floor Tiles. He has been associated with various Federations and Associations, and presently Deputy Chairman of the Confederation of Indian Industry Northern Region. On behalf of FICCI and CII, he has lead business delegations to Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh Being in the business of adding beauty to living spaces, he has always been artistically inclined - in love with art, design and music. He is a Director of Samagam, an organization established with the objective of strengthening the fields of performing and visual arts. Also his hobbies are - passionate with his photography, garden and trekking.

Mr Amal Kr Guha (b. 1954), FIICeram, a Life Member and present Council Member of the Indian Ceramic Society, obtained his certificate in Ceramic Technician course from the Govt College of Engineering and Ceramic Technology (formerly, College of Ceramic Technology), Kolkata in the year 1976 with a stipend on merit basis from the Directorate of Industries, Govt of West Bengal. He also obtained training in modern ceramic tableware manufacturing process from the Nalanda Ceramic Industries Ltd, Ranchi, Jharkhand (technically collaborated with Japan) under the guidance of his elder brother and noted ceramist Mr Nirmal K. Guha and some Japanese experts.
As a Chief Technologist in Palam Potteries, New Delhi he developed low cost hotelware, dinnerware and matt finish ceramicware, which were introduced commercially for the first time in India in the year 1978. Till date these are the most popular hotelwares, being employed by the Indian hotel industry. Mr Guha worked with Jaipur Glass & Potteries Ltd, Jaipur as a Works Manager; Punjab Potteries, New Delhi as an Executive Director, Osho Ceramics Ltd, Haryana as a Technical Director and Bharat Potteries Ltd, Jaipur as a Technical Consultant. During this period (1977-1998) he introduced open fired tunnel kiln using LSD/HSD as fuel for fine ceramics glost-firing, long lasting & thin-sectioned sagger, kiln-furniture, different types of body and glaze for different temperatures, colour stain for body & glaze, etc to minimize cost, reduce rejection and improve the quality.
In 2003, he started commercial production of his new invention, Bengal China tableware (resembling Bone China without bone ash), from their family unit Subarna Ashram at Baruipur, South 24 Parganas, WB. The product (Terra-Porcelain product) looks like terracotta with porcelain-like properties. For the first time in India he produced facing bricks in different colours and shapes and also ceramic grills, door knobs, ceramic screen for room partition, gardening pot, etc. Mr Guha is the Managing Director of R. P. Ceramics Pvt Ltd, Kolkata.
He was elected as a Council Member of the Indian Ceramic Society from North Zone (1991-1992 and 1994-1995) as well as from East Zone (2005-2006, 2007-2008 and 2009-2010). He also served the Society as its Treasurer, Joint Secretary of its Delhi Chapter, and Treasurer of its Kolkata Chapter. He is a past President of All India Potteries Manufacturers’ Association. At present he is a Fellow Council Member of Indian Institute of Ceramics.
He was a Committee Member of the Crockery sub-committee and Raw Materials sub-committee of D.G.T.D., Ministry of Industries, Govt of India and also a member of the Whiteware sub-committee (CHD 9:2), Bureau of Indian Standards, Govt of India. On behalf of BIS, he drafted the specification of Indian tableware. He was also involved with National Backward Class’ Finance & Development Corporation under the Ministry of Welfare, Govt of India, as a Consultant and Resource Person during 1996-98. Mr Guha is one of the founder members of the Institute of Refractory Engineers, New Delhi. He is the Senior Vice President of Cottage & Small Scale Industries, South 24 Parganas (WB), India.
Mr Guha’s brain child is “Shilpa-Banijya Mela – South 24 Parganas”, which is organized every year at Baruipur, South 24 Parganas (WB), India. This trade and industry fair is acclaimed by the Govt of India, the Govt of West Bengal as well as a number of eminent personnel of the country. He also organized a National Symposium on ‘Ceramics: Energy and Environment’ in Kolkata in the year 2011 as the Organizing Secretary.
Mr Guha is the recipient of ‘Karmayogi Award’ (1992) conferred by the PCB Award Committee, Kolkata and ‘Prof. Sasadhar Ray Memorial Award’ (2008) from the Indian Ceramic Society. He was honoured jointly by New Mumbai Bengali Association and Alumni Association of Shibpur Engineering College (Mumbai) as a Best Rural Entrepreneur of the country in 2004. As a ceramist he has visited many tableware, dinnerware, kitchenware, hollow block bricks, klinker, pavers and ceramic stain units in UK, Germany, Netherlands, Austria, Czechoslovakia, France, China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Bangladesh and Italy.

Dr Lakshmi Narayan Satapathy, 46, completed his MSc (Chemistry), MTech (Mater. Sci.), both from IIT, Bombay, PGDEE from IIEE, New Delhi, MBA from IGNOU, New Delhi and PhD (Engg) from IISc, Bangalore. He is currently working at Ceramic Technological Institute of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Bangalore, India as Sr Dy General Manager with 24 years of research and professional experience.
Dr Satapathy’s R&D activities are focused on “Energy Efficiency”. He has made significant contributions in Microwave Processing of materials and systems, heat transfer Nanofluids for close circuit cooling applications, cost effective wear resistant ceramic components and high temperature characterization. He has guided many students, delivered invited lectures in many conferences and organized many national and international seminars/workshops.
Dr Satapathy was a UNIDO fellow at Alfred University, USA and BOYSCAST fellow at PENNSTATE, USA. His biography has been included in Marqui’s Who’s Who, USA and in International Biographical Centre, Cambridge, UK. He is the only recipient of three awards namely R. L. Thakur memorial award for Young Scientist in 2002, Malaviya award for best technical paper in 2008 and Sashadhar Ray memorial award for Industrial Excellence in 2010 instituted by Indian Ceramic Society. He was elected Fellow of Indian Institute of Ceramics in 2009.
He has published more than 50 technical papers in international journals and filed 20 Indian patents. He is a member of the editorial board of “Transactions of the Indian Ceramic Society” and “International Journal of Materials Engineering” besides a reviewer for many international materials science journals. Dr Satapathy is a life member of InCerS, MRSI, IIM, IITBAA and IIScAA. He is currently the President-Elect of Indian Institute of Science Alumni Association.

P. Sujatha Devi, a first rank holder in MSc Chemistry from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala received PhD in Chemistry from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore in 1991. She joined as a scientist in CSIR-Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute, Kolkata, in 1997 and at present is a Principal Scientist at the Nano-structured Materials Division. She did post doctoral work in USA during 1993-1996 and 1999-2001. Her research interests are in the areas of processing and characterization of advanced functional materials for fuel cells and solar cells and nanomaterials for chemical sensors/biosensors and drug delivery applications. She is a recipient of many awards like R. L. Thakur Memorial Award, Rheometric Scientific-ITAS National Award, Lakshmi Gold Medal, P. K. Kunju Sahib Memorial Award for Excellence in Chemistry and the MRSI Medal, for her contributions in the area of materials science and technology. She is a Fellow of the West Bengal Academy of Science and Technology and an elected member of the National Academy of Sciences. She has more than ninety peer reviewed papers and few patents to her credit. Dr Devi is the Secretary of ‘DNA Society of India’ and the Secretary of ‘Materials Research Society of India’, Kolkata chapter. She has been in the Executive Council of Indian Thermal Analysis Society, Mumbai, and is currently in the council of Materials Research Society of India, Bangalore and Society for Materials Chemistry, Mumbai. Dr Devi was also a Member of the Materials Science Section of the Indian Science Congress Association (2010) and Group Chairman of the Solid State Electrochemistry Group of the Society for Advancement of Electrochemical Science and Technology.

Mr B. S. Ganguli obtained his B.S. (Chemical Engineering) from Drexel University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA in 1970. He worked in the R&D division of Engelhard Minerals & Chemicals Inc before his return to India as a Production Engineer at Enamelnagar Development Corporation Ltd, a company, which manufactured ceramic raw materials, and was also consultant engineers for ceramic technology – where he went on to become a Director, and then the company’s Managing Director.
In 1999, he started his own proprietary business, Ganguli Ceramics, manufacturing frits and colours for the ceramic industry, as also different types of specialty frits for sale in India and abroad.
Apart from his business interests, and his work in various technical and manufacturing associations of various fields of ceramics, he is an active sportsman, and is currently the President of the West Bengal branch of the Japan Karate Association of India. He is also an active social worker, being a Past President (1992-1993 & 2009-2010) of the Rotary Club of Calcutta South East. He is a Fellow of the Indian Institute of Ceramics and a council member of the All India Pottery Manufacturers’ Association. He co-founded the Porcelain Enameller’s Association in 1975.
At present, Mr Ganguli is serving as the President of the Porcelain Enamellers’ Association, and Treasurer of the Indian Ceramic Society and of All India Pottery Manufacturers’ Association.

Dr Arup Kumar Chattopadhyay obtained his MTech (Chemical Tech, with specialization in Ceramic Tech) from the University of Calcutta and PhD (Tech.) for his thesis entitled, “Kinetics of Dehydration and Rehydration of Aluminium Silicate Systems” from the same University in 70’s.

During his service, he successfully completed Global Management Development Programme from the University of Michigan – Business School USA, INSEAD- Fontainblau France and Orchestrating Winning Performance (OWP-2008) at IMD Lausanne, Switzerland.

He has a rich experience of more than 30 years in leading refractories industry in India like Dalmia Refractories, ACC – Refractories Division (Now ACE-Caldrys Refractories), Tata Refractories, etc in various business functions and was responsible for introducing innovative products / services which helped the organizations for their rapid growth. He was the Managing Director of TRL Krosaki Refractories Ltd and Chairman of TRL-China. Presently he is Advisor to the Chairman of TRL Krosaki Refractories Ltd.

Dr Chattopadhyay is a visiting faculty of the University of Calcutta. He has a number of publications in several technical journals and proceedings, and has presented about 80 technical papers in various national and international seminars.

Dr Chattopadhyay has been awarded the “Refractory Technologist Award” by the Indian Ceramic Society in the year 1996. He is a member of the Research Council of Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute, Kolkata; Chairman, Refractory Sectional Committee – MTD-15 of Bureau of Indian Standards; Life Member in Orissa Environmental Society; Member of Odisha ICC Expert Committee; Member of Governing Body of Govt College of Engineering and Ceramic Technology, Kolkata and Chairman, MSME-Sub Committee – CII – ER-Kolkata. He was the Chairman of Indian Refractory Makers’ Association from 2006 to 2010. He was the President of Indian Ceramic Society for the term 2013 & 2014. He is also a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the InCerS’ quarterly journal ‘Transactions of the Indian Ceramic Society’. For his outstanding contribution in the field of refractories and his exemplary services to the refractories industry he was honoured as “Distinguished Life Member of Unified International Technical Conference on Refractories (UNITECR)” in the year 2013.

Dr A. L. Shashi Mohan (b. 1950) obtained his MSc in Chemistry from Bangalore University and PhD in Solid State Chemistry from Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai. He started his career as CSIR Scientist at IIT-Bombay and worked there (1974-77) in the areas of electronic and thermal ceramics.

In 1977, Dr Shashi Mohan joined Grindwell Norton Ltd as a founder member of their R&D Centre at Bangalore. During his 22 years (1977-1999) at Grindwell, he had held various managerial positions in the R&D Centre and, Technical Ceramics Division. He made significant contributions in the development & commercial exploitation of several newer abrasives & ceramic products.

In 1999, after leaving Grindwell, Dr Shashi Mohan founded “VIPRA” – a Materials Technology firm offering Technical Consultancy as also dealing with Development & Manufacture of specialty abrasive & ceramic products for customised applications.

A Life Member of the Indian Ceramic Society (InCerS), Materials Research Society of India and, Aluminium Association of India and, a Fellow of Indian Institute of Ceramics, Dr Shashi Mohan was a member of DST-PAC on Materials, Mining and Mineral Engineering for 12 years. He has published more than 25 research papers, made15 conference presentations and, has 4 patents to his credit.

Dr Shashi Mohan has been an active member of the Bangalore Chapter. During his tenure as Hony Secretary (2000-02) and Chairman (2004-06), the Bangalore Chapter received the Best Chapter Award (2001, 2002 and 2005). He was also the Chairman of the Organising Committee of the 71st Annual Session of InCerS held on Jan 9-11, 2008 that was a highly successful one.

Prof. Ram Pyare (b. 1955) obtained his post graduate degree in Chemistry in 1976 and PhD in Ceramic Engineering in 1981, both from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. He started his career at the department of Ceramic Engineering, IT, BHU as a lecturer in 1984, became Reader in 1992 and Professor in 2008. He has been elected Head of Department of Ceramic Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (BHU), Varanasi on 24.01.2013.

Prof. Ram Pyare is actively involved in teaching and research. His major research area is in the field of glass, which includes redox reactions in glasses, chemical durability of glasses, determination of different valence states of different redox ions in different types of glasses, glass-ceramics, low durable glasses for agricultural purposes, bio glass and their ceramic derivatives.

Prof. Ram Pyare has published more than 50 research papers to his credit with 30 in internationally reputed journals. He has guided many MTech and PhD students. He is a reviewer of many reputed international journals.

Prof. Ram Pyare is a member of Senate of IIT (BHU), Varanasi. He is a life member of the Indian Ceramic Society and Society of Biological Sciences and Rural Development (SBSRD) and Fellow, Indian Institute of Ceramics. He is the Chairman, Examination Committee of Indian Institute of Ceramics from 2010-2011 to 2013-2014 term.

Mr Kamal Dasgupta is at present the Acting Director of CSIR-Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute, Kolkata. He is also the Chief Scientist and Head of the Fiber Optics and Photonics Division of the Institute.

Mr Dasgupta obtained BE (Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering) from Jadavpur University, Kolkata and MTech (Microwave and Communication) from IIT, Kanpur. He started his professional career at Avionics Design Bureau, HAL, Hyderabad as a Senior Design Officer in 1978 and worked there till 1982. He then joined Development Consultant Private Limited as a Design Engineer and worked there for four years (1982-1986). In 1986 he joined Central Glass & Ceramic Research Institute as a Scientist.

Mr Dasgupta’s areas of research interest include Structural health monitoring, Development of interrogation systems for fiber Bragg grating sensors, Ultrasonic sensing for damage detection in structure, Fiber lasers, Tunable fiber laser source, etc. His notable research contributions are design of sweep frequency 4.3 to 4.6 GHz SRD oscillators for radio altimeter transmitter and balanced mixer for front-end receiver; design of fiber amplifier; and FBG interrogation system design. Mr Dasgupta is the recipient of ‘Best Design Award’ from Ministry of Defence for Radio Altimeter. He has more than 40 publications in several journals of repute and conference proceedings, and 4 patents to his credit.

Mr A. K. Kaviraj, a Fellow Indian Institute of Ceramics, a Life Member of the Indian Ceramic Society, Material Research Society of India and a founder member of Institute of Refractory Engineers, obtained his MTech degree in Chemical Engineering and Chemical Technology with Specialization in Ceramic Technology from Calcutta University in 1969.
Out of about 40 years in the profession of Ceramics, Mr Kaviraj spent initial 15 years in refractory manufacturing activities. During this period he served various refractory manufacturing units in India in various capacities, lastly as Works Manager of Bihar Firebricks & Potteries Ltd. In his career as refractory specialist he served almost all the Integrated Steel Plants of the country as a potential manufacturer and supplier.
For the last about 25 years he is engaged in Ceramic Tile manufacturing activities. He served SPL Ltd from 1984 to 1996, initially as Works Manager and later as General Manager (Production). In 1996 he joined H & R Johnson (India) Ltd, the largest Ceramic Tile manufacturing company in India, as General Manager (Operation) at Thane plant. Subsequently, he took over the charge of Pen Plant as General Manager (Operations). His greatest achievement lies in the installation, commissioning and subsequently successful running of India’s single largest and most modern tile unit at Pen, Maharashtra.
He went abroad several times in connection with his professional activities. He visited a number of ceramic manufacturing units in Europe (to mention particularly of Italy, Spain, Germany, etc) and Asia (like China, Taiwan etc) and interacted with various overseas manufacturers & suppliers of ceramic machineries / raw materials.
During his working with H & R Johnson, apart from plant operations, he handled various techno-commercial activities of the company like project & engineering including material management (import & domestic), geology & mining, energy management, R&D and technical, etc, holding different positions in corporate function. Very recently he retired as Director, R&D and Industrial Products in H & R Johnson (India) Ltd and is now engaged as an Advisor of the same company from April, 2009.
He is the recipient of ‘Prof. Sasadhar Ray Memorial Award’ (2001) conferred by the Indian Ceramic Society and was the speaker of ‘M. G. Bhagat Memorial Lecture’ of the Society in the year 2009. He was a Council Member of the Society in consecutive 3 terms from 2001 to 2006 and also for 2009-2010.
He is a guest lecturer for MTech course of Calcutta University and an External Examiner for Ceramics of IIT, Banaras Hindu University, a prestigious Institute for Ceramics in India. He is also a member for number of Advisory Committees related to Ceramic Functions in India.

Dr Sanjay Kumar is Principal Scientist & Group Head, Recycling and Waste Utilization at CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory, Jamshedpur, India. He is also Associate Professor in Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research and teaching Environment and Waste Management. He is PhD in Ceramic Engineering, Fellow, Indian Institute of Ceramics and having 20 years of research experience in the area of ceramics and waste utilization.
His current research interest is ‘Green technologies from waste. Dr Kumar has initiated the research on fly ash geopolymers in India and today his group is internationally recognized. They have put up the first fly ash geopolymer pilot plant in India which is a unique facility and working as national capacity building centre. He has commercialized the first Geopolymer technology in India.
Dr Kumar has edited 1 book, authored 3 book chapters, published 105 papers with 950 citations, having 14 patents and delivered more than 30 invited talks. Sri Surajit Gupta (b. 1957) graduated in Ceramic Engineering from Calcutta University in the year 1977. Presently, he is working as Senior Principal Scientist at CSIR-Central Glass & Ceramic Research Institute since 1988. His main area of expertise is the development and manufacturing of different kinds of ceramic crucible for melting of glass, ceramic and other related materials.

Now he is actively engaged in manufacturing and supply of 310 lits refractory crucible for making of highly corrosive glass cullet. His current research interest is the development of specialty refractory crucible for direct melting of corrosive glasses by replacing platinum crucible. Sri Gupta has few patents, publications and awards in his credit. He is the life member of few professional bodies.

Mr Swapan Kumar Saha, a life member of the Indian Ceramic Society, was born on 11th January, 1956. He obtained diploma in Civil Engineering in the year 1980 and joined CSIR-CG&CRI on 18th May, 1983. He further enhanced his academic qualification and obtained BE and ME degrees in Civil Engineering from Jadavpur University in 1997 and 1999 respectively. After serving in different capacities at the Institute at present he is the Senior Superintending Engineer and Head of Engineering Services Division of CSIR-CG&CRI, which comprises of Civil and Electrical Sections. During his service he undertook many challenging jobs like total up gradation, addition of new facilities and renovation of existing facilities of CG&CRI to transform this into a state-of-art facility. He is also responsible for expansion and maintenance of two outreach centres of CSIR-CG&CRI, namely Naroda Centre, Ahmedabad and Khurja Centre, Khurja, Uttar Pradesh. Civil Engineering Section obtained the Award for Best Supporting Section of the Institute for the year 2009-2010. In addition, he constructed Common Service Facility-cum Production centre at Thongjao and Nungbee in Manipur where many people do not dare to go. He constructed a big CFC at Panchmura, Bankura, West Bengal.

He is currently a life member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Materials Research Society of India, Indian Geo-Technical Society and Indian Institute of Engineers. He is the General Secretary of Society of Civil Engineers, Jadavpur University.

Dr Sunirmal Jana did his MSc (Chemistry) in 1991 from Kalyani University, Nadia, WB, India and obtained his PhD (Science) degree in 1998 from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India. In December 1997, Dr Jana joined CSIR-Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute (CSIR-CGCRI), Kolkata, India as Junior Scientist and presently, he is working as Principal Scientist at Sol-Gel Division of the same Institute. His current research areas are dielectric / metal oxide semiconductors (MOS) based sol-gel thin films and carbon based MOS nanomaterials for different applications (such as sensor, catalyst, etc). Dr Jana has actively involved/coordinated various national and international research projects. At present, he has published 35 research articles in internationally reputed SCI journals, above 60 conference abstracts, 4 Book Chapters and 3 Indian patents. He is presently guiding five PhD students and already guided 10 MTech/MSc/BTech students. Dr Jana is an elected member of the Council of Indian Ceramic Society for two years (2015 and 2016). Prof. Saikat Maitra is presently working as a Professor and Principal-in-Charge at the Govt College of Engineering and Ceramic Technology (GCECT), Kolkata. From 2008-2010, he worked as Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Malaysia. He has passed BSc (Hons in Chemistry) from Presidency College, Kolkata, BTech in Chemical Technology and MTech in Ceramic Technology from the University College of Science and Technology, University of Calcutta. He received his PhD degree in Ceramic Engineering from the University of Calcutta in 1996.

Prof. Maitra has working experiences in different ceramic industries. He has also worked as a Scientist at Central Fuel Research Institute, Dhanbad, India, prior to his joining the GCECT.

Prof. Maitra has published 110 research papers in several international journals and presented 40 research papers in different Conferences. He has authored two books on Ceramic Technology and holds one European patent. Under his research guidance three research scholars have been awarded PhD degree and presently seven research scholars have been working under his supervision. His research area of interest includes sol-gel science, thin film and membrane, reaction kinetics and nanotechnology.

Prof. Maitra is the Editor of the Journal of Coal Ash Institute of India, Hony Associate Editor of the “Transactions of the Indian Ceramic Society” and a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of “Indoceram”, a journal published by All Indian Pottery Manufacturers’ Association. Dr Satyendra Nath Misra after completing MSc in chemistry and PhD in materials science from IIT, Kharagpur in the year 1983 and 1988 respectively, joined at Sree Chitra Thirunal Instt of Medical Sci & Tech, Trivandrum during 1980-90 as research associate to work on bioceramics under CSIR Research Associateship. He started his career in industry since July, 1990 to 1996 as research scientist and subsequently promoted to Manager in Grindwell Norton Ltd, Bangalore. Later served industries such as Orient Abrasives, Tata Refractories Ltd, Bharat Pottery, Saudi Ceramics, Aditya Birla Insulatorrs etc before joining to CGCRI, Naroda Centre, Ahmedabad. He has with him more than 16 years of work experience in research, product development, administration, manufacturing and in marketing areas in various senior positions in those companies in India & abroad.

He joined CGCRI, Naroda centre as senior principal scientist on August, 2014 and continuing as scientist in Charge till date. His present responsibilities include managing the extension centre, interacting all the ceramic and allied industries in the region for providing technical service and working with no. of process improvement and development projects sponsored by Govt and industries as well as testing and training activities of the centre. In his tenure, CGCRI Naroda centre has been actively involved in product development on the area of low mass refractory kiln furnitures for crockery wares, low temperatutre matured stonewares for the SME’s, clay processing to value added products, ceramic tiles from waste, Sorrel cement based Emery stones for Flour mill polishing industries,nano technology application on traditional ceramics etc are few of the successful recent technology developed for commercialization.

He has special interest to work on innovative product development area on sol gel techniques/nano technology, waste utilization and societal projects where traditional pottery development is associated with the GMKRTI etc. Recently, he has associated as principal investigator for the integrated pottery development project with GMKRTI, Gandhi Nagar on a societal project to implement technology upliftment of the rural artisans in the state of Gujarat. He is the member of some state level committees, Bureau of Indian Standards, Fellow of Indian Institute of Ceramics, life member and present council member of Indian Ceramic society etc. He has visited no. of countries and gave no. of lectures on raw materials, product development, nano technology, ceramic and refractory areas, creativity and innovation, successful technology transfer in industries and commercialization of technologies in ceramic and allied areas in various universities.

Dr Lalit Kumar Sharma obtained his PhD degree in Ceramic Engineering from IIT-BHU, Varanasi in 1989. After serving industry till 2004, he joined Central Glass & Ceramic Research Institute (CGCRI), Khurja extension centre in August 2004. He developed nitride bonded silicon carbide refractory products for non-ferrous metal industries, porcelain and ceramic tableware industries, honey-comb cordierite for ceramic tableware industry, energy efficient ceramic coatings for kilns and refractory monolithic s for super alloy industries.

Dr Sharma has delivered invited lectures in various industries (like Tata Chemicals, TISCO and DCM etc), institutes and universities (like IIT-BHU, Charan Singh University, Vishvesaria Technological University, Faculty of Engineering, Agra College, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Yokohama National University in Japan and National Argonne Laboratory, USA), management Institutes (like Bajaj and Delhi School of Business), government ceramic institutes in UP, Karnataka, Tamilnadu and Haryana. He has number of publications (research papers and articles) to his credit. Under the leadership of Dr Sharma as Scientist-in-charge, CSIR-CGCRI, Khurja extension centre has done a lot of work for the development of ceramic tableware industry in Khurja, black pottery in Ajamgarh and GI registration of blue pottery in Jaipur, energy saving in cluster through dead mass reduction in kilns, utilization of waste heat in kilns, flue gas analysis of kilns and productivity improvement through various technological implementations. Dr Sharma and his team in CGCRI, Khurja centre has set up a special purpose vehicle for dependent potters. CGCRI, Khurja centre is the only institution in India providing T&D on eco-friendly glass beads and glass beads based jewellery making having full flashed set-up with modern cold process technology.

Dr Sharma is the recipient of several awards, viz. ‘Shubham Shree’ in 2010 by an NGO in Bulandshahar district for his contribution to the science and technology; ‘Best Industry Service Award’ in 2010 by Rotary Club for his contribution to the Khurja whiteware clusters; Global Star Award by American Ceramic Society in 2014, etc The Western UP Chapter of The Indian Ceramic Society, under his chairmanship, has grown significantly and was awarded the ‘Best Chapter Award’ in 2007, 2010 and 2012.

Dr Sharma has served Indian Institute of Ceramics as Joint Secretary and Vice President and Indian Ceramic Society as Joint Secretary. A Life member of the Indian Ceramic Society, he is the Founder Senior Vice President of BHU Alumni Association-NCR and a member of the American Ceramic Society.

Dr C. S. Prasad (b. 1958) did his graduation in Ceramics from the Indian Institute of Ceramics, Kolkata in 1983. He worked as a trainee at High Tension Insulator factory, Ranchi in 1980 and as a Research Assistant at the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad during 1981-82. In May 1982, he joined the Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute (CGCRI), Khurja Centre, where he has been involved in research and development of traditional ceramics till date.

Dr Prasad obtained his MTech and PhD degrees in Mineral Engineering in the year 1990 and 2005 respectively from the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad. His main research interest includes development of whiteware bodies and glaze, low cost ceramic products, bone china porcelain, high alumina porcelain for technical application, HT and LT insulator, etc. He has about 34 publications in different national and international journals. He is also an author of a Hindi book entitled, “Pottery Vigyan Parichay”. He is the recipient of Ganpule Award twice conferred by the Indian Ceramic Society for publication of best paper in an Indian journal in the field of whiteware ceramics. Dr Prasad has been associated with the Indian Ceramic Society for the last 29 years and has become a Life Member of the Society in 2003. He has been involved in the Research & Development of clayey ceramics bodies at CGCRI, since 1983. He has expertise in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering for ‘Strategic applications & System technologies’ including design, development, engineering and integration. He has exceptional understanding and skill in several important zones of materials-metal technologies including technology commercialization, aerospace & strategic materials engineering (i.e. special alloy technologies, engineering composites and ceramic design), micro electromechanical systems, thermal protection and hot-structures, beam technologies, thermal spray engineering, innovative technologies and R&D management while having hands on experience with more than 75 numbers of processing systems, testing characterization techniques including electron microscopy. He has authored about 25 peer-reviewed papers in international journals and three book chapters on permitted areas whereas having an USA patent on high temperature metal casting, confirmed in 2013. He has also presented in many international/national/industrial conferences. He has worked in an autonomous conglomerate of DRDO as scientist for more than one decade, and in IIIT Baser as a junior professor. Currently he is occupied as a senior scientist with CSIR headquarters (Min. S&T) at New Delhi while having a couple of noteworthy assignments. He had a number of finest R&D contribution to his preceding organisations. He is a regular reviewer for few international journals, chief editor of Journal of Materials Science and Surface Engineering. KGK Warrier obtained PhD from the University of Kerala in Chemistry and joined the Regional Research Laboratory (presently renamed as NIIST) (Council of Scientific & Industrial Research), Trivandrum (India) as a Scientist in 1978. He held the positions of Chief Scientist, Head, Materials Division & Head, Planning and Business Development of the institute till January 31, 2012. Currently he is CSIR Emeritus Scientist and Professor Academy CSIR. He did Post Doctoral work as DAAD Fellow at the Max Planck Institute, Stuttgart, Germany and was also Visiting Scholar in Argonne National Laboratory, USA. Dr Warrier contributed in the areas of materials chemistry, composites, nano materials and ceramics. He was the project leader for many research projects funded by national and international agencies and also by industry.

He is a referee for many international journals in materials science & ceramics. He has about 250 publications, five patents and has edited proceedings of two international conferences. He is a recognized research guide for PhD to many Indian universities. He has advised 17 PhD theses and has currently 3 PhD projects. He is a Fellow of Indian Institute of Ceramics and member of many scientific societies. He successfully transferred scientific findings to technology and is on the advisory committees of academic as well as industrial organisations. Dr Warrier received ‘Life Time Achievement Award’ in 2012 from Indian Society for Analytical Chemists and ‘Srikishan Modi Memorial Award’ from the Indian Ceramic Society in 2013.

Dr P. Manohar is the Professor and Head of the Department of Ceramic Technology, A.C.Tech campus, Anna University, Chennai. He obtained his Graduate and Post Graduate degrees respectively from Madurai-Kamaraj University (Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai) and University of Madras (Regional Engineering College, Tiruchy). He received his Ph.D. degree from Anna University, Chennai. In 1978 he joined Anna University, where he has been involved in teaching the students (both UG and PG) of Engineering and Technology. He served the Centre for Ceramic Technology, Anna University, Chennai since its inception and initiated the research.

Prof. Manohar is the principal investigator of major research projects funded by MHRD, AICTE, UGC and co-investigator for one project funded by ICMR. He was a Visiting Professor of Nagoya Institute of Technology, Nagoya, Japan.

Prof. Manohar has published 25 research papers in national and international journals and presented many papers in national and international Conferences. His research interest includes electronic ceramic materials, ferrites, structural materials, fuel cells and bioceramic materials. Under his able guidance 7 students have already received their Ph.D. degrees in the field of Ceramic Technology and Materials Science and many more are presently working for their Ph.D. and M.Tech. He has also guided more than 25 M.Tech. and MS students of Ceramic Technology.

Dr C. D. Madhusoodana is the Senior Deputy General Manager in Ceramic Technological Institute, BHEL, Bangalore. He has BE in Ceramic Technology from PDA College of Engineering, Gulbarga, MSc (Engg) from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, Advanced Diploma in Chemical Engg from Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan & Doctor of Engineering from Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan. He has 24 years of professional experience in R&D on ceramics and advanced materials for energy and environment particularly on porous materials. He has contributed to 25 patent applications (8 granted), 35 papers in peer reviewed journals and more than 50 conference presentations to his credit.

He is the recipient of UNIDO fellowship from Alfred University, USA (1992), UNESCO fellowship from Tokyo Institute of Technology (1999) and JSPS fellowships from Japan (2002). He was a visiting scientist at Indonesian Institute of Science (2007) and Institute for Membrane Technology (ITM-CNR), Italy (2012). He was awarded with the First Pavan Nagpal Memorial Award by the Indian Ceramic Society, Bangalore Chapter in 2012 and D. N. Agrawal Memorial award for life time achievement in Glass and Ceramics by the Indian Ceramic Society in 2013. He has presented a paper in Euromembrane 2012 at London and was an invited speaker at Indo-German symposium of Humboldt foundation at Berlin in May 2014.

He is a Life Member of the Indian Ceramic Society, Materials Research Society of India, Indian Membrane Society and a Member of the American Ceramic Society. He is also a Fellow of Indian Institute of Ceramics. He served as the Hony Secretary of InCerS Bangalore chapter during 2006-2010 and at present he is the Chairman of InCerS Bangalore Chapter.

He is closely associated with academic organizations as member of board of studies/exams of many institutions/boards. He has guided more than 50 BE projects, more than 20 masters’ projects and 3 PhD students.

Mr V. Rajagopalan (b. 1958) has a Small Scale Refractory Unit, Clayman Refractories, in Vriddhachalam running from the year 1981, which supplies to mini steel plants, sugar mills and foundries. The refractory unit has rotary kiln for calcining fire clay and supplying to refractory units, and serving captive power plants. It has a capacity of around 1200 tons in a month.

Mr Viswanathan is the immediate past President of Tamilnadu Ceramic and Refractory Manufacturers Association, Vriddhachalam; Executive Commitee member of Tamilnadu Small and Tiny Industries Association; and Rotary Club Member of Vriddhachalam 2980 Rotary International District.
